Steve Jenkins

Born in Australia in 1971, Steve Jenkins moved with his family to Portland, Oregon in 1978. He received a Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University in 1994, then an MBA with emphases in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from BYU’’s Marriott School of Management in 1996.

In 1994, while still a student, Steve founded Jenesys LLC., an Internet media company that created content-based Web sites, including the popular WinFiles.com software download website. Steve sold the WinFiles site in February 1999 to CNET, Inc. for $11.5 million in cash. In 1996, a few months before graduating with his MBA, Steve co-founded and served as CEO of Web hosting provider Virtual Servers LLC. Following graduation, Steve moved the company to Seattle, WA and merged with ISP LightRealm Communications, still serving as CEO then later as Chairman of the Board. LightRealm and VServers were sold in December 1999 to Micron Electronics for $48.5 million in cash.

Steve has also worked as a marketing Product Manager for Microsoft and Project Manager for Times Mirror Publishing. While at BYU, he was an active member of A.C.E. (the Association of College Entrepreneurs), and was selected as BYU’s Student Entrepreneur of the Year in 1996. In August 2001, Steve co-founded the CheatCodes.com Web site, which publishes video game tips, tricks, and strategy guides for all major game systems, and currently serves as CEO. In 2006, Steve became co-owner and Chief Strategy Officer at BidNip LLC., an online auction bid service provider. In 2010, Steve became CEO of gamerID Network, a network of video game related websites.

Steve enjoys speaking on technology, business, and entrepreneurship for organizations around the world, and serves on a number of technology-related task forces and advisory groups for a variety of educational, governmental, business, and private organizations. He is a regular guest lecturer at Brigham Young University, and has also lectured at Columbia University, University of Washington, BYU-Hawaii, BYU-Idaho, and the Academy for Creating Enterprise in Cebu, Philippines. Steve is a Platinum Founder and Board Member of the BYU Entrepreneur Founders, and previously served on the board for the BYU Center for eBusiness. He was the benefactor of the Jenkins Professorship of Entrepreneurship in Technology and four student scholarships at BYU’s Marriott School, and in 2011 established the initial endowment for BYU’s Student Entrepreneur of the Year prize fund.

Steve served a two-year volunteer mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bordeaux, France. He is a Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) in Cuong Nhu mixed martial arts and an instructor at Fairwood Martial Arts. He enjoys SCUBA diving, Formula 1 racing, Italian automobiles, and travelling with his family. He currently resides near Seattle, Washington.
